Light in Darkness
Loah Learning, the light in darkness التعليم باللوح، ضوء في جنح الظلام The students life in Khalwa (Islamic institute equivalent to elementary school). Most children in villages in Sudan attend to the Khalwa instead of elementary school. The Khalwa is established and funded by the local community, where students from ages 6 live and learn Quran. Students start by writing on a piece of wood (Loah, the Arabic word for Wooden Board), they write with ink on the Loah, wash it after memorizing by heart and move on to the next group of verses. The whole community in the Khalwa lives in harmony, peace, happiness, and a simple life despite all the difficulties Visiting the Khalwa was my first close interaction with the community for learning the Holly Quran in my region (Sudan), It took my few minutes to understand I was missing allot by not coming here earlier. “When you walk through the darkness, God shall be your light!.” ― Lailah Gifty Akita
